Thirty Seconds Over Wall Street.

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

During World War II, a movie was made of the Jimmy Doolittle bombing raid of Tokyo in 1942.  The bombing from the aircraft carrier, USS Hornet, was done as a response to the attack on Pearl Harbor.  It was a wonderful propaganda coup for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who said the raid came from Shangri-La.

On Monday April 27, a presidential 747 flew along the Hudson River with a fighter jet in tow.  This so-called photo-op was not signaled by the yo-yos in Washington D. C.  Since the plane’s course was similar to the terror attacks of September 11th, the plane’s sighting caused panic and some attempts for evacuation.

The White House and Congress have been kicking the ever living stuffings out of Wall Street, caring little about the emotional panics they cause to the economy.  So why not a bombing run down the Hudson, particularly noting that Washington’s number one enemy is New York’s bankers.

The “chicken little” approach (the sky is falling in) has hardened New Yorkers about external threats, as the swine virus has been broadly ignored.  Perhaps, the economy will begin to recover as the desensitizing effects of fear mongering are ignored.  But the negative effect is simple.  Fewer people are watching TV or reading newspapers and magazines.
